If you’re like me, the busyness of the school year has passed and summer is full on! There are lots of things vying for our attention!
- Kid’s summer activities
- Work goals to be met
- Planning cookouts with friends
- Keeping up with regular workouts
As we continue to engage in this year, here are a few reminders I am finding helpful:
1) It’s about Presence.
A good friend of mine recently said, “The best we have to offer others is our transformed and transforming presence.”
In the midst of the hard work and so many distractions, put down the iPhone, pause the TV, and be fully present with those around you. Nothing is more validating and life-giving than giving someone your full attention.
2) Check your Priorities
It’s all too easy to fall into old habits and routines that don’t bring life or fruitfulness. As you work day to day, keep in mind the things that are most important (keeping in mind the five capitals).
- Are you getting home at a decent time?
- Are you investing in your spouse?
- Are you keeping up with your physical goals?
Now is generally when our priorities start slipping. Check in with your friends and keep on it!
3) A long-term Perspective
Can I confess something to you? My wife and I love awards shows. From the Golden Globes to the Oscars, we are all in.
You know the portion of awards shows where they honor actors who have passed away? I am always struck by how short life is when I see moments like these.
In the busyness of life, how are you keeping a long-term perspective? From a kingdom of God perspective, what really matters? Are you living like those are the things that really matter?
Keeping your focus
The apostle Paul says:
So remember, it’s about:
- Presence
- Priorities
- Perspective
Go for the fruitful life! And stay out of the mindless hamster wheel.
